 What is Stash?

Stash is a personal finance app that can help anyone improve their financial life.

From budgeting to saving for retirement, Stash brings banking, investing, and advice into one app helping over 6 million people reach their financial goals - all at a low monthly price.

How does Stash work?

Stash can give you everything you need to build long-term wealth. Here's how Stash works.

  • Answer some questions.
When you first join Stash, we'll get to know you by asking a few questions. These help us understand your financial goals and provide helpful, specific advice for things like investing and budgeting.

  • Choose a plan.
After that, you'll get your subscription plan, starting at just $1 per month. †
With Stash, you always have access to investing with a personal brokerage account, Stock-Back® Card, 1 budgeting and savings tools, advice and education, and life coverage with Avibra. Depending on the plan you choose, you can also open Individual Retirement Account (IRA) 4 and Investment Accounts for children.

  • Add money to Stash.
You can add money to Stash automatically or manually. If you have 5 minutes, you can set up a direct deposit to send all or part of your paycheck directly to Stash. You can even receive your paycheck up to two days early.

  • Bank, budget and create goals
You can also use our automatic budgeting and savings tools to organize your money in different spaces, create goals, and track your spending.

  • Invest your way.
Once your money is in Stash, you can choose to invest it in fractional stocks of thousands of stocks and ETFs worth $5 or less, or make purchases with the Stock-Back Card 1 and earn Stash stock as you spend.

Stash is designed for long-term investing, not day trading, so all our market transactions are executed within four trading windows every weekday. (Note: Availability of trading windows depends on market conditions and may be subject to restrictions.)

How much does a stash cost?

Includes personal investment account, restock card that earns double the balance, single savings tools, personal tips, Roth IRA or traditional retirement IRA, investment accounts for kids, 5 exclusive monthly market insights report, and $10,000 of life insurance coverage through Avibra .

Why does Stash charge a monthly fee?

The predatory fees from financial services are appalling. In 2019, Stashers who paid at least one offshore bank fee paid an average of $382 per year in overdraft fees to their other banks.

We think this is a mistake. So when we built Stash, we did it with a completely different financial structure. Stash plans are simple and transparent and start at $1 per month with no hidden fees.

We are all about transparency. Just as you pay a flat subscription to a music streaming service to access millions of songs, you pay Stash a flat-fee subscription ($1, $3, or $9 per month) to access all your financial needs — like fractional co-investing, a debit card that earns shares when you Spending, unlimited financial tips.

Is Stash safe?

Is Stash legit? Yeah. From your investments to your money, you can feel confident that your money is safe on Stash.

  1. Stash uses advanced security features.
  2. Stash keeps your spending safe.
  3. Stash is a registered investment advisor with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

What is Stash's mission?

Stash is on a mission to empower ordinary Americans to build wealth. We believe every financial decision can be an investment in your future - which is why our tools and products are designed to help people achieve greater financial freedom.

Unlike a lot of other financial companies, we're here to help build healthy financial habits, achieve financial goals, and remove long-term barriers to building wealth.

By giving Stashers access to simple, affordable investing and unlimited financial education, we remove what we consider to be the two biggest barriers preventing average Americans from building wealth: a lack of access and a lack of financial knowledge.

Instead, we're building a clear path to a better financial future for all Americans.
